Week 7 - Practice Plan

OLLB Rally Cap
Week 7 Practice Plan

Session Overview:

This week will introduce the fundamentals of base running. Getting called out can be a difficult situation for players so the drill will teach them which bases they're allowed to run over while teaching players on defense how to apply a tag.

Practice Plan Outline:

Warm-up can be done by individual teams or as a large group. Set up players across a foul line and mark a line about 30 feet away and do 5-8 dynamic warm-ups. Drills such as: light jog, walking arm circles, high knees, butt kicks, lunges with a twist, zombie walks.

Finish the warm-up with 10 jumping jacks.

Teams get split into game and practice sessions.

Musical Bases and Positions Setup 4 bases and have the players lightly jogging in the middle. Coach calls a base or a position and all the players run to either the base or where the position normally stands before a pitch. 1. Start with bases
2. Then do positions
3. Mix them up lastly

Baseball Tag Setup 4 bases and mark an area that is safe. Runners advance to the next base at their own risk. Players in the middle are 'it' and try to touch a runner with their glove to call the runner out. Things to look for:
1. Tags should be in the arms (not the head). Look out for pushing instead of tagging.
2. Runners cannot overrun 2B and 3B. Runners should be encouraged to overrun 1B and Home.

The Relay Friendly competition between teammates. If not enough players are on a team, time the players and have them attempt to beat their time. Place a target, can be a bucket, a hoola hoop or even just the fence. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8DK_1bSVUY
Front Toss Coach or parent helper kneels 15-20 feet in front of the player and overhand throws to the batter. The rest of the team is fielding Assuming a team of 6:

1. Two batters
2. Two players behind to collect balls
3. The remaining players in the field.
