Orleans Little League

Rookie

Our Rookie division is offered for players aged 7 and 8 as of August of the current year.  In prior years, you may have heard this division referred to as Coach Pitch.  As the majority of the Little Leagues across the city use the term Rookie more than Coach Pitch, we have decided to standardize on calling this division "Rookie".

For the Spring season, the Rookie division will only play their games in Orleans against other Orleans teams.  For the Summer Season, the Rookie Canadian team will play against other Rookie Canadian teams from across the city (this is called Interlock play).  If numbers permit, our National teams will play their games in Orleans against other Orleans teams.  Should we not get enough participants to make a minimum of 4 teams at the National level, then the National teams would also play interlock.  In both seasons, Rookie is split into 2 levels: Canadian and National.  This allows players to play against players at their similar skill and comfort level. .

The Canadian level is for more advanced players.  The National level is for those players graduating from T-Ball but who are still developing basic baseball skills, or for players who are Rookie aged but new to the sport.  The goal of both divisions is always Player Development and coaches in both divison must adhere to fair play rules.

During the Spring season, games will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays.  Each session is a combined 30 minute practice followed by a game.  During the summer, games are scheduled Monday thru Thursday
  • Canadian level teams will have 2 games and an optional weekend practice at the discretion of the coach
  • National level teams will also have 2 games a week however a this level there typically will not be weekend practices
